THE STORY
In the beginning, there was only the sea and Pulotu.
From the sky, Tangaloa, a paramount creator deity and sky-father, sent his son, Tangaloa 'Atulongolongo, in the form of a plover to search for land. Twice he found nothing.
On the third journey, he saw land rising from the ocean, the first islands.
The plover reflects that search and the first sight of land.
